The first press conference of the 2020 Mount Everest Elevation Survey was held at Everest Base Camp, which marked that the 2020 Mount Everest Elevation Survey was officially launched. It is reported that large-scale surveying & mapping and scientific investigation work on Mount Everest has been carried out by surveying & mapping worker in China for 6 times, and the elevation of Mount Everest was successfully surveyed and published in 1975 and 2005 respectively. In 1975, China installed the first survey beacon on the top of Mount Everest, and announced the accurate elevation of Mount Everest as 8,848.13m. In 2005, when the elevation of Mount Everest is surveyed again, ice-snow radar detector was first used to measure the thickness of ice and snow at the summit. The elevation of the rock surface at the summit of Mount Everest was determined as 8,844.43m above sea level based on rigorous calculation. The multiple elevation surveys for Mount Everest in different ways and different periods have become an important symbol for human beings to know and understand the earth.
