Autonomous Driving System Integration & Vehicle Domain Controller Architecture

Valeo has been selected as the Tier-1 system supplier by Nissan to engineer and manufacture the hardware and software architecture for Nissan's next-generation ProPILOT driver assistance program. The industrial collaboration integrates artificial intelligence driving models with high-performance automotive compute platforms to support advanced driver assistance systems across high-volume passenger vehicles.

Industrial Roles and Technical Integration Challenges
Transitioning artificial intelligence software models into series automotive production requires meeting rigorous functional safety, environmental durability, and real-time processing constraints. Nissan required an industrial partner capable of packaging external software stacks into automotive-grade hardware modules suitable for vehicle mass production.

Within the project framework, Nissan establishes vehicle integration standards and operational design domains for the ProPILOT suite. Valeo serves as the lead Tier-1 systems integrator, responsible for sensor hardware, centralized computing integration, and production industrialization. Wayve provides the core artificial intelligence driving software, designated as the Wayve AI Driver, which acts as the autonomous decision-making layer within the system stack.

Platform Architecture and System Responsibilities
The integrated system relies on centralized computing topology to replace decentralized electronic control units. Valeo will manufacture and integrate an advanced driver assistance systems domain controller capable of executing neural networks and real-time path-planning algorithms.

Sensor architecture deployed around the vehicle provides three-hundred-and-sixty-degree perception inputs. Raw sensory data feeds directly into the domain controller, where the Wayve AI Driver software parses environmental conditions, vehicle kinematics, and surrounding road actors. Valeo's system stack ensures hardware redundancy, low-latency inter-chip communications, and strict compliance with automotive functional safety criteria.

Deployment and Manufacturing Implementation
The engineering process focuses on validating software-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop models prior to physical vehicle platform validation. Valeo, Nissan, and Wayve will execute joint integration phases to verify sensor fusion accuracy, thermal stability of the central computing module, and software latency under peak processing loads.

Implementation involves calibrating sensory hardware within production vehicle bodies and standardizing diagnostic protocols across manufacturing plants. The program scales the technology from prototype development to full series manufacturing, ensuring the platform interfaces seamlessly with existing powertrain, braking, and steering electronic control units.
