Siemens eMobility and OMV have partnered to deploy decentralized high-power charging infrastructure along primary European transport routes to support the operational electrification of commercial freight and passenger transport. The collaboration implements the modular SICHARGE FLEX charging system at highway service hubs, addressing the technical throughput demands of heavy-duty battery-electric vehicles.
System Architecture and Dynamic Power Management
The SICHARGE FLEX platform operates on a decentralized architecture with an overall power capacity ranging from 480 kW to 1.68 MW. The system dynamically allocates available electrical power across multiple dispensers based on real-time vehicle demand and battery management system acceptance rates. This automated power routing prevents local grid overload while maximizing charging efficiency across simultaneous connections. System performance, diagnostics, and operational availability are managed through Siemens SIFINITY Control, a cloud-based software interface.
Technical Deployment on the Brenner Transit Corridor
The initial commercial installation was commissioned on September 29, 2026, at the OMV service station in Kufstein, Austria, situated along the Brenner transit corridor connecting Germany and Italy. The site features four charging points for passenger cars and two charging points for commercial vehicles, each delivering up to 400 kW of direct-current power.

A planned secondary implementation phase will add four dedicated heavy-duty charging points delivering between 600 kW and 1,200 kW via the Megawatt Charging System standard. At these power outputs, an electric truck equipped with a 620-kWh battery pack can charge from 20 percent to 80 percent state of charge in approximately 45 minutes, aligning operational turnaround times with mandatory driver rest periods.
Operational Roles and Network Scalability
OMV functions as the charge point operator and mobility service provider, integrating the charging hardware into logistics-focused service station infrastructure that includes heavy-vehicle amenities. Siemens eMobility provides the technical hardware, modular engineering components, and ongoing technical support. OMV has placed equipment orders for additional SICHARGE FLEX installations across its Austrian network to expand heavy-duty digital infrastructure along international freight corridors.
