Stellantis, Wayve, and Uber Partner for Global Robotaxi Fleet

Stellantis, Wayve, and Uber have entered a partnership to explore the development and deployment of Level 4 (driverless) robotaxis at a global scale. The collaboration integrates Stellantis’ L4-Ready Platforms™ with Wayve’s artificial intelligence driving technology and Uber’s marketplace to power a new generation of fully autonomous vehicles.

Context of the Cooperation
Commercializing autonomous mobility at a global scale requires managing the immense complexity of vehicle manufacturing, adaptive software development, and market fleet orchestration. No single company possesses the entire ecosystem needed to scale autonomous vehicles (AVs) without substantial capital risk and re-engineering bottlenecks.

To overcome these operational challenges and democratize AV technology, cooperation was established to combine three complementary industrial strengths. Stellantis contributes vehicle design, manufacturing capacity, and engineering expertise. Wayve provides its adaptive, embodied AI driving software to eliminate regional mapping dependencies, and Uber delivers a global marketplace network. This unified ecosystem approach builds upon existing strategic relationships, including a prior L2++ agreement between Stellantis and Wayve, alongside Uber and Wayve's pre-existing partnerships across cities such as London and Tokyo.

Technical Solution and Responsibilities
The technological platform unifies specialized hardware, end-to-end AI software, and cloud-based fleet marketplace infrastructure. Responsibilities are divided among the three partners based on their core competencies to target specific components of the operational workflow:
  • Stellantis is responsible for the design, engineering, and mass manufacturing of vehicles built on advanced L4-Ready Platforms™. These vehicles feature embedded sensor suites engineered with the safety redundancies and operational parameters required for high-utilization driverless operations.
  • Wayve provides the underlying AI driving software that enables the vehicles to process, understand, and navigate complex real-world environments. Built using an end-to-end AI approach, the software is designed to adapt to diverse regional driving conditions without relying on city-by-city mapping or code re-engineering.
  • Uber is responsible for the digital mobility platform layer, integrating the automated fleet into its global network to connect riders with autonomous trips via the Uber app.
The integrated system functions by allowing Wayve's adaptive software to control the factory-integrated hardware of Stellantis' vehicles, while Uber's dispatch algorithms manage vehicle allocation and scale operations across multiple markets.

Deployment or Implementation
The cooperative framework is structured to manage multi-phase scaling across international territories. The initial implementation strategy focuses on deep technical vehicle integration, testing, and system validation.

The subsequent deployment phases aim to introduce these safe and scalable autonomous mobility services to urban centers across Europe, North America, and additional global regions. By deploying these driverless vehicles directly onto a high-utilization mobility network, the partners intend to accelerate the commercial availability of robotaxi services and bring the technology to millions of riders worldwide.
