For automotive electronics, connected vehicles, and software-defined vehicle (SDV) platforms, Panasonic Automotive Systems Co., Ltd. has deployed a new in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) system in Toyota Motor Corporation’s 2026 RAV4. The platform combines OTA-enabled software architecture, ADAS integration, and a high-definition user interface to support evolving vehicle connectivity and digital functionality.
The system has been developed to operate within Toyota’s Arene software platform, created by Woven by Toyota, enabling deeper integration between infotainment, vehicle systems, and cloud-based services.
Software platform integration for SDV functionality
The IVI system is designed as part of a broader SDV architecture, where vehicle functions are increasingly managed through software updates and centralized platforms. Integration with Arene enables the infotainment system to act as a hub for over-the-air (OTA) updates, covering both multimedia features and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
This approach allows continuous feature deployment and system improvements without requiring physical modifications, supporting lifecycle updates and reducing dependency on hardware revisions.
Enhanced user experience and connected services
The platform incorporates wireless smartphone connectivity via Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, along with Bluetooth® audio and digital radio support (HD Radio, SXM, and DAB). It also integrates user authentication and voice-based controls through smartphone and cloud connectivity.
Additional features include cloud-based navigation, temperature control integration, and improved voice recognition performance. These functions are accessible through a customizable home screen, enabling personalized user interaction while maintaining centralized control of vehicle systems.

ADAS integration and safety functionality
Beyond infotainment, the system incorporates ADAS-linked features such as camera-based recording functions. This integration allows safety-related data and recording capabilities to be managed directly within the infotainment interface, supporting driver awareness and post-event analysis.
By combining infotainment and safety functions, the platform reduces system fragmentation and simplifies interaction with vehicle technologies.
High-definition display and integrated interface design
The system features a high-definition display available in 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch configurations. The interface consolidates navigation, climate control, and multimedia functions into a single screen, reducing the need for separate control modules.
LCD bonding technology improves display clarity and durability, while the system’s compact and lightweight design contributes to overall vehicle efficiency. The integration of multiple functions into a unified interface also supports space optimization within the vehicle cabin.
Supporting large-scale deployment across vehicle markets
The IVI system debuts in the 2026 Toyota RAV4, with initial availability in North America starting February, followed by expansion to additional regions. The model is expected to be distributed across more than 170 countries, reflecting the scalability of the platform.
Through this deployment, Panasonic Automotive Systems and Toyota continue their collaboration on SDV technologies, focusing on software integration, connected services, and system standardization across vehicle platforms.
