Honda Partners with Mythic to Co-Develop AI-Optimized Automotive SoC

Honda Motor Co. has announced plans to co-develop an automotive system-on-a-chip (SoC) with Mythic, a U.S.-based semiconductor technology company, to accelerate research into high-performance, energy-efficient AI computing for software-defined vehicles (SDVs).

The development will be led by Honda R&D Co., Ltd. and builds on Honda’s strategic investment in Mythic. The collaboration aims to advance next-generation SoC technologies capable of supporting automated driving and other AI-driven vehicle functions while significantly reducing power consumption.

As vehicles become increasingly software-defined, Honda views high-performance and energy-efficient computing platforms as critical to addressing both safety and environmental challenges. The company is therefore exploring neuromorphic SoC architectures inspired by human brain function, which promise improved AI processing efficiency compared with conventional digital approaches.

Mythic brings expertise in analog compute-in-memory (CiM) technology, which minimizes data movement during AI computation and enables high throughput at low power. The company has also developed a mature software ecosystem, including SDK tools, to support practical AI deployment on its hardware platforms.

Through the partnership, Honda R&D will integrate Mythic’s analog CiM technology with Honda’s own AI models and electronic control unit (ECU) development expertise. The goal is to create AI computing functions optimized specifically for automotive applications, accelerating the development of next-generation SDV platforms.

By combining Honda’s vehicle engineering and AI system knowledge with Mythic’s semiconductor innovation, the companies aim to establish a foundation for scalable, energy-efficient AI computing infrastructures that support the future of intelligent, safe, and sustainable mobility.
