Multi-layer cabin filter for vehicle climate control systems

DENSO has introduced ClearAir+, a multi-layer cabin filter for vehicle climate control systems, designed to reduce particles, allergens, gases, and microbial contaminants in automotive aftermarket applications.

Technical design and filtration mechanisms
ClearAir+ is based on a five-layer filtration structure addressing different classes of contaminants. A pre-filter layer with silver chlorite technology reduces microbial growth within the filter material. An antimicrobial and antiviral layer captures aerosol-transmitted microorganisms and uses impregnations and anions to inactivate enveloped viruses.

The activated carbon layer adsorbs pollutant gases such as NOx, SOx, and ozone, as well as odor-causing substances from traffic and fuel emissions. An anti-allergen layer binds pollen proteins and reduces allergic reactions. The electrostatic microfiber layer filters fine particles down to 1 µm, including PM10, PM2.5, and PM1.0.

Performance and standards reference
Filter performance has been evaluated according to international standards, including ISO 18184 and ISO 20743 for antiviral and antibacterial effectiveness. The manufacturer reports more than 99% reduction of certain microorganisms, based on tests conducted by external laboratories.
