Volvo Introduces 14-Tonne FL Electric for Urban Transport Needs

A New Entry Point for Urban Electric Transport

Volvo Trucks has expanded its electric portfolio with the launch of the 14-tonne Volvo FL Electric, a new entry-level variant designed specifically for city-based distribution and utility operations. Building on the success of the existing FL Electric range, the new model offers reduced vehicle weight and a revised battery configuration that aligns performance with the shorter, stop-and-go routes common in dense urban environments.

The FL Electric has been one of Volvo’s earliest and most widely adopted medium-duty electric trucks, valued for its compact dimensions, low noise profile and zero tailpipe emissions. The new 14-tonne version strengthens this role by providing an optimized solution for operators who require maneuverability and payload efficiency rather than maximum battery capacity.

Configurable Design for Payload, Agility and Bodybuilding Flexibility
The latest FL Electric variant supports multiple wheelbases, axle layouts and battery configurations, allowing operators to tailor range and payload to specific operational demands. The new battery architecture is designed to fit without interfering with bodybuilding installations, improving compatibility with specialized urban bodies such as delivery boxes, refrigerated units or municipal equipment.

Its narrower width option — down to 2.4 meters — offers enhanced agility in congested streets and tight delivery zones, improving route efficiency and driver confidence in compact city environments.

Shared Battery Platform Across Volvo’s Medium-Duty Electric Range
The batteries introduced in the 14-tonne FL Electric are also available across Volvo’s broader electric truck lineup, including the 16- and 18-tonne FL Electric models and the FE Electric trucks with gross combination weights up to 26 tonnes. This shared platform simplifies fleet planning, maintenance and charging strategies for operators adopting electric vehicles across multiple weight classes.

Volvo has been producing FL and FE Electric trucks since 2019, with availability across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Australia. With eight battery-electric truck models now in production and more than 5,700 units sold globally, the company continues to expand its role in the transition to cleaner, quieter transport solutions.

Technical Performance for Typical City Operations
The 14-tonne FL Electric delivers an estimated range of up to 200 km depending on load, driving conditions and temperature. It offers 145 kWh of usable energy, a 180 kW electric motor and 240 mm of ground clearance, with DC fast charging enabling a 20–80% recharge in around 85 minutes. Production will begin in the second half of 2026, further broadening the availability of Volvo’s electric transport offering for urban logistics operators.
