Stoneridge has introduced its centralized EVO ECU platform at IAA Transportation 2026 in Hannover, Germany, held from September 14 to September 20, 2026, targeting commercial vehicles, buses, coaches, and off-highway equipment.
Architectural Consolidation for Commercial Vehicles
Modern commercial transport faces increasing electrical integration complexity due to the expansion of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), high-resolution camera networks, real-time connectivity, and software-defined functions. Conventional vehicle architectures often rely on distributed electronic control units adapted from passenger vehicle designs, which limit scalability and update efficiency.
The EVO ECU platform addresses this structural gap by integrating core processing capabilities into a single, centralized electronic control unit designed specifically for commercial and industrial operating conditions. Developed in collaboration with Renesas Electronics, the hardware and software foundations are engineered to run concurrently while maintaining functional safety separation. This modular architecture facilitates over-the-air or remote software updates, streamlines fault diagnostics, and allows original equipment manufacturers to introduce system upgrades without major hardware overhauls.
Operational Integration and Safety Applications
At IAA Transportation 2026 in Hall 21, Stand C44, Stoneridge demonstrates the EVO ECU operating alongside its MirrorEye Camera Monitoring System within an Innovation Truck and stationary simulator. The platform powers two core functional additions: MirrorEye Surveillance Mode, which triggers automated video recording and alerts when motion or approach is detected near a parked vehicle, and Surround View, which synthesizes a composite bird’s-eye perspective of the truck and trailer combination to assist maneuverability in constrained spaces.
The broader MirrorEye ecosystem has logged more than 200,000 unit deliveries globally since 2020 across six original equipment manufacturer programs, with two additional manufacturer integrations scheduled for launch in 2028.
Technical Rationale and Scalability
From a manufacturing and fleet standpoint, centralized processing reduces the physical harness weight, minimizes component count, and enhances system reliability across high-vibration and extreme-temperature operating environments typical of heavy-duty and off-highway machinery.
"Commercial vehicles are increasingly connected and intelligent, but traditional vehicle architectures were not designed to support this pace of innovation," said Christian Leblanc, Global Vice President of Product and Project Management at Stoneridge. "EVO provides a scalable platform that simplifies integration, improves vehicle performance and gives customers the flexibility they need to adapt as technology continues to evolve."
Additional Context:

The Stoneridge EVO ECU platform enters a competitive market for centralized commercial vehicle controllers and domain architectures. Comparable modular vehicle controllers include the ZF Vehicle Control Module (VCM) and Central Vehicle Controller (CVC/MUX), as well as multi-domain electronic control units offered by tier-one suppliers such as Bosch Mobility.
- Architecture and Safety Compliance: ZF’s VCM supports multi-domain coordination up to ISO 26262 ASIL D functional safety levels and UNECE R155 cybersecurity compliance using multi-core lockstep microprocessors . Similarly, Stoneridge utilizes a scalable software architecture developed with Renesas to isolate safety-critical domains from auxiliary applications.
- Interface Standards: Industry-standard domain controllers deploy high-speed communication buses including CAN-FD, LIN, and Automotive Ethernet. The EVO ECU integrates direct support for dense multi-camera inputs and vision processing tailored explicitly to mirror-replacement and blind-spot elimination laws, diverging from generic powertrain-focused ECUs like the Bosch engine control unit series which prioritize combustion and torque management.
- Operational Focus: While general-use domain controllers focus heavily on longitudinal powertrain coordination or autonomous driving domain splitting up to Level 4 (such as ZF cubiX integrations), Stoneridge combines chassis electronic control with direct peripheral proprietary ecosystems like MirrorEye, which accounts for over 200,000 active legacy deployments.
